Just one day after Lindsay Lohan joked about her less-then-stellar driving record in a Super Bowl commercial, the actress didn't feel like making light of her party girl reputation.
She and her mother, Dina Lohan, filed a lawsuit against Fox News; Sean Hannity, the host of its show Hannity; and one of Hannity's guests, pundit Michelle Fields, for the way Fields talked about them on the show. On Feb. 4, 2014, in a regular segment called "The Great American Panel" focused on celebrities such as Philip Seymour Hoffman, who died from drug use, Fields commented that "Lindsay Lohan's mom is doing cocaine with her."

Both Lindsay and Dina have been arrested for being behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and the two have been photgraphed out on the town together.
But Fields's speculative statement did not sit well with LiLo's legal team. In a letter dated Feb. 18, 2014, addressed to Roger Ailes, the chairman and CEO of Fox News Channel, attorney Mark Jay Heller demanded an apology and retraction and that video of the comment be removed from the Fox News website. It called out Fields for her "blatantly false, malicious, defamatory and reckless statement," and the show for implying that Lindsay would soon meet the same fate as Anna Nicole Smith, Heath Ledger, and others.  Israel's PM Benjamin Netanyahu said that Prof. William Schabas "was biased against Israel."

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed the resignation Tuesday of the head of a U.N. inquiry into alleged war crimes during last summer's conflict between Israel and Hamas militants in Gaza.

Netanyahu said that Prof. William Schabas "was biased against Israel" and that the commission of inquiry's as yet unpublished report was written at the behest of the U.N. Human Rights Council, which the Prime Minister described as "an anti-Israel body."

He said the report, due to be presented to the U.N. Human Rights Council in March, should be shelved. "This is the same council that in 2014 made more decisions against Israel than against Iran, Syria and North Korea combined," he added.

Netanyahu said that Israel acted in accordance with international law during Operation Protective Edge and that it was "Hamas, the other terrorist organizations and the terrorist regimes around us that need to be investigated, not Israel."

Israel's Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman also accused Schabas of bias -- saying his nomination was "like appointing Cain to investigate who murdered Abel" -- and welcomed his resignation, describing it as "another achievement of Israeli diplomacy."

Schabas, a Canadian-born professor of international law based in London, was appointed by the U.N. Human Rights Council to head the three-person commission of inquiry in August.

The council said its task was "to investigate all violations of international humanitarian law and international human rights law in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, particularly in the occupied Gaza Strip, in the context of the military operations conducted since 13 June 2014."

This includes looking at the activities of Palestinian armed groups in Gaza, including attacks on Israel, as well as the Israeli military operation in Gaza and the West Bank, it said.

The United Nations has said more than 2,100 Palestinians were killed in the conflict in Gaza. According to U.N. estimates, at least 70% of the Palestinians killed were civilians, but Israel reports a higher number of militants among the dead.

On the Israeli side, there were 68 casualties, 65 of them soldiers and three civilians.

Robin Williams with his third wife Susan in 2011

Robin Williams' widow and children have gone to court in a dispute over the late comedian's estate.

In papers filed in December in San Francisco Superior Court, Williams' wife Susan accused his children of taking items without her permission.

The children - Zachary, Zelda and Cody - argued that Susan Williams was "adding insult to a terrible injury" by trying to change their trust agreement.

The dispute involves items Williams kept at two homes and in storage.

Susan Williams has requested that the contents of the home she shared with her husband be excluded from the jewellery, memorabilia and other items her husband said his children should have.

Williams' children have taken issue with this suggestion, saying there should be no limits placed on the items to which they are entitled.

Items in dispute include the actor's collection of watches and the Oscar statuette he won in 1998 for Good Will Hunting.

The star committed suicide at his home in Tiburon, California, in August 2014

Amid rumors that the aging former Cuban leader is in declining health, or that he may even have already died, Cuba's Communist Party newspaper Granma published an article online featuring the first photos of Fidel Castro to be seen in months.
The article, titled "Fidel is one of a kind (More photos)," includes a gallery of more than 20 pictures of the 88-year-old Castro speaking with the head of the Federation of University Students at the University of Havana, Randy Perdomo GarcĂa.

Mohamed Fahmy, one of two al-Jazeera journalists still held in Egypt, has renounced his Egyptian citizenship to secure his release, his family say.

Mr Fahmy's brother said the journalist, who is also Canadian, was told to give up his nationality or his freedom.

Canada says his release is imminent. The status of his Egyptian colleague Baher Mohamed remains unclear.

Peter Greste, who was freed on Sunday, said he feels "incredible angst" at leaving his colleagues in a Cairo jail.

The Australian journalist was freed from prison and deported after 400 days behind bars.

Peter Greste: "The prison warden said it's time to pack your stuff... you're going"

The three al-Jazeera English journalists were arrested in 2013 after being accused of collaborating with the banned Muslim Brotherhood after former President Mohammed Morsi was ousted by the military.

All three denied the charges against them and said their trial was a sham.

'Release imminent'

Mr Fahmy's brother, Adel, told reporters that the Egyptian authorities gave the journalist the choice between "dropping the nationality or his freedom".

"It was a very difficult decision. Mohamed is very proud and comes from a patriotic family of high ranking military and policemen that have defended this country and fought its wars," Adel Fahmy said.

Many of those family members were offended by Mr Fahmy's decision to relinquish his citizenship, he added, but said his fiance and his mother had pushed him to do so.

Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird said on Monday that Mr Fahmy's release was "imminent" but gave no details of a resolution

Orla Guerin: "Peter Greste and his colleagues insist that the only thing they are guilty of is doing their jobs"

There are still concerns over the fate of Mr Mohamed, however, because he is an Egyptian who holds no dual nationality.

The defeat of Islamic State forces in the Syrian city of Kobani may be difficult to replicate quickly in other parts of Syria and Iraq, where ground forces are too weak to repel the militants.
Punishing airstrikes by a U.S.-led coalition contributed to the defeat of extremists in Kobani, which is on the border of Turkey. But resistance from hardened Kurdish ground forces proved decisive, according to military experts.
"The expectation of rapid and highly visible success in the air operation is misplaced," said former Defense Intelligence Agency official Jeff White, an analyst at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. "They (Kurds) are effective ground troops in this kind of war."
Combat troops capable of defeating the Islamic State and regaining territory are lacking in Syria and parts of Iraq. That makes coalition airstrikes in those areas less effective.
In Syria, moderate opposition forces opposed to the Islamic State have yet to receive promised U.S. military training. In Iraq, more than 1,000 U.S. advisers are helping to train the Iraqi military, which suffered humiliating defeats against Islamic State fighters last year.

Hollywood star Sylvester Stallone has been left "devastated and grief-stricken" following the sudden death of his actor son, Sage.

Sage Stallone, 36, was found unresponsive in his flat in Studio City, near Hollywood, on Friday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, amid some media reports of a medication overdose.

There was no sign of foul play or trauma, and no suicide note was found, a coroner said.

Sage Stallone appeared alongside his father at the age of 14 in Rocky V.

Bottles of prescription pills were recovered from the flat, but it was unclear what medication they contained or whether they were connected with the death, Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said.

A post mortem examination will be performed in the next few days, but it will take several weeks before toxicology tests can be completed, Mr Winter Said

The website TMZ quoted unidentified sources as saying that Sage Stallone had died of an overdose of pills, and that the authorities were trying to find out whether it was accidental or intentional.

 'Tragedy'
"Sylvester Stallone is devastated and grief-stricken over the sudden loss of his son, Sage Stallone... His loss will be felt forever," the star's publicist, Michelle Bega, said in a statement.

"His compassion and thoughts are with Sage's mother, Sasha," the statement added, referring to the star's first wife, Sasha Czack. "Sage was a very talented and wonderful young man."

Sage Stallone's lawyer, George Braunstein, said the body had been found by a housekeeper.

"He was in good spirits, and working on all kinds of projects... He was planning on getting married," Mr Braunstein Said.

"I am just devastated. He was an extremely wonderful, loving guy. This is a tragedy."

Sage Stallone appeared in several films and made his debut as Sylvester Stallone's on-screen son in the 1990 film Rocky V.

He also acted alongside his father in the 1996 film Daylight.

A 26-year-old woman with the nickname Star who says she is going to marry 80-year-old mass murderer Charles Manson will have to wait a while longer.
Afton Elaine Burton and Manson got a marriage license last year to stage a wedding inside a visiting room at California State Prison, Corcoran.
However, it expires Thursday, meaning they missed their chance to tie the knot over the weekend, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation spokesman Jeffrey Callison said Monday.
Weddings are not held on weekdays at the prison.
If the wedding is ever going to happen, the couple must register for a new Kings County marriage license.
Burton, who says she loves Manson, left her home In Illinois and has spent the last nine years living near the Central California prison.
Manson was convicted of killing seven people, including pregnant actress Sharon Tate, the wife of director Roman Polanski.
Burton, who maintains websites espousing Manson's innocence, has not responded to recent requests seeking comment on the relationship. Shortly after obtaining the license, she told The Associated Press the nuptials were imminent: "Y'all can know that it's true," she said in November. "It's going to happen."
The expiring license indicates that Burton intends to take Manson's last name, if they are married.
James McGrath, a New York City photo agency editor, said he maintains contact with Burton and she intends to obtain another 90-day license and go ahead with the marriage.

Security officials in Egypt say police defused two bombs overnight at Cairo International Airport, as a separate blast this morning in downtown Cairo scared passers-by without wounding anyone.

They say the airport bombs, one planted at the arrival hall of airport's terminal hosting Egypt Air and the other near a police patrol location, looked to be controlled remotely by mobile phone.
On Tuesday morning, officials say a sound bomb planted inside an electrical box in central Cairo exploded, wounding no one.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to journalists.
Egypt has been gripped by turmoil since the military toppled Islamist President Mohammed Morsi in 2013. The country has faced attacks ranging from suicide bombings to near-daily small blasts from homemade bombs.
