Saraki emerges Senate President
Senator Ahmed Lawan(Borno), who emerged the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress, was not nominated. Details later.. —————————————————————— ——- Earlier today (9:08am) President Muhammadu Buhari is currently holding a meeting with National Assembly members, elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, to resolve the crisis that has engulfed the party over the lawmakers’ battle for top seats in the federal legislature. The meeting is holding an hour before the inauguration of the 8th legislature, scheduled for 10am today (today) in the National Assembly complex, Abuja. A mock election, organised by the leadership of the APC on Saturday, produced Senator Ahmed Lawan (Borno) for the Senate Presidency while Femi Gbajabiamila(Lagos) emerged as the party’s candidate for the election of the Speaker of the House of Representatives. Senator Bukola Saraki, who lost to Lawan, and Ibrahim Dogara of the House of Reps, have faulted the process and vowed to go ahead with their bid regardless of the outcome of the ‘primaries’ or the decision of the party.
